The UN announced Wednesday the arrival of a humanitarian convoy consisting of five trucks to the front line in the Ukrainian town of Guliaipolé, Zaporiyia, with a cargo of shelter materials, solar lamps, medicines and other medical and hygienic materials.
Some 3,000 people still live in the town, which is equivalent to one-sixth of the population in February last year, according to UN data, and where continued shelling has destroyed and damaged numerous houses.
In the last few days alone, at least twelve civilians have already been reported killed or wounded in attacks in both the east and southeast of the country, including Sloviansk in the Donbas region.
The fighting and shelling have caused damage to homes, schools and hospitals on both sides of the front lines, such as a hospital in Kherson on Tuesday or a humanitarian facility hit by missiles on March 25.
This is the sixth inter-agency convoy to arrive in the region since the beginning of the year. The first arrived at the end of January.
