The Kremlin on Friday declined to comment on the indictment of former U.S. President Donald Trump in the case of the payment of a bribe to pornographic film actress Stephanie Clifford, known as Stormy Daniels, and stressed that »it is an internal matter» of the U.S. country.
»I don’t think it’s a matter for comment,» Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said. »It is an internal American process and we do not consider it necessary to comment,» he stressed, as reported by the Russian news agency TASS.
The case stems from the scandal over the possible secret payment of $ 130,000 (more than 120,000 euros) to Stormy Daniels by Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen. Trump has thus become the first former US president to be indicted, which could end his aspirations to return to the White House in the elections scheduled for 2024 in the North American country.
Trump has published a statement after his indictment in which he denounced »political persecution and electoral interference». »This has never been done before in the history of our nation,» he has recriminated, while accusing »the Democrats of the radical left» of »a witch hunt to destroy the ‘Make America Great Again» movement» and has stressed that he is »a completely innocent person».
