Canadian police on the Akwesasne Indian Reservation said in a statement Saturday that they have identified two of the eight migrants killed in the St. Lawrence River who attempted to illegally enter the United States through Canada.
Both belonged to the same family of Romanian descent, and the first has been identified as Florin Lordache, 28, who was carrying the Canadian passports of the two deceased children, ages one and two. The second body has been identified as Cristina (Monalisa) Zenaida Iordache, also 28 years old.
The identities of the four Indian nationals have not yet been confirmed and their families have not yet been notified», explained the police force and added that »Until confirmed, the names will not be published».
The first body was located on Thursday around 17.00 local time in a swampy area of the Akwesasne reserve, so the Local Police conducted a search in the area with the help of the Coast Guard and the Hogansburg Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department and that same day found five other bodies.
The other two bodies were found this Friday following searches of the area.
