Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree to posthumously award the Order of Valor to Russian journalist Vladlen Tatarski, known for his specialization in military issues, who died Sunday after an explosion in a St. Petersburg coffee shop.

»For courage and bravery shown in the performance of professional duty, I award the Order of Valor to Maxim Fomin (Vladlen Tatarski), military correspondent (posthumously),» reads the decree, TASS news agency reported Monday.

The Order of Courage is awarded to citizens fighting crime, protection of public order, rescue of people, as well as military service »in conditions associated with the risk of life» in the framework of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The explosion, which injured another 30 people, 24 of whom were hospitalized, occurred in a cafeteria on the promenade of St. Petersburg University where Tatarsky, whose real name is Maxim Fomin, was holding a meeting with the public.

Numerous videos spread on social networks show Fomin, born in the Donbas in eastern Ukraine, receiving a figure, apparently a statue, in which was hidden the explosive, which had a power of about 200 grams of TNT accompanied by shrapnel.
