Former U.S. President Donald Trump has left his mansion in Mar-a-Lago (Florida) on Monday for New York, where on Tuesday he is scheduled to appear in court in Manhattan in connection with the case of alleged bribery of porn actress Stephanie Clifford, known as Stormy Daniels.

The former president is scheduled to land at LaGuardia Airport in New York at around 15.00 (21.00 hours in mainland Spain), and will stay at Trump Tower, a skyscraper in the heart of Manhattan, as confirmed to the US network CNN a source familiar with the matter.

The trip of former President Trump to New York has generated commotion to the point that the mayor of the city, Eric Adams, has urged citizens to »continue with their usual activities», although he has warned tourists that in the coming hours may experience »some interruptions» in traffic or closures of some streets.

Regarding possible demonstrations or protests, Adams has assured that the authorities have no indications that there may be »credible threats» to security and has asserted that New York is the »home» of the citizens, »not a playground in which to unleash anger». »We have the safest big city in America because we respect the rule of law,» he reiterated.

Former President Trump was indicted Thursday for the possible secret payment of $ 130,000 (more than 120,000 euros) to Clifford by the former lawyer of former President Michael Cohen. Trump has thus become the first former US president to be indicted, which could end his aspirations to return to the White House in the elections scheduled for 2024.

The former president issued a statement after his indictment in which he denounced »political persecution and electoral interference». This has never been done before in the history of our nation,» he recriminated, while accusing »the Democrats of the radical left» of »a witch hunt to destroy the ‘Make America Great Again» movement» and defending his innocence.

Although the majority of Americans are in favor of Trump’s indictment according to a poll, from the campaign team of the former president, candidate for the 2024 elections, have claimed to have raised up to five million dollars — nearly 4.6 million euros — in donations in just 48 hours.
