Russian authorities have detained Daria Trepova on Monday for her alleged responsibility in the murder of blogger Vladlen Tatarski in a bomb attack executed on Sunday in a cafeteria in the city of St. Petersburg, which resulted in more than 30 wounded.
Trepova has been detained by members of Russia’s Investigative Committee, the agency said on its Telegram account, shortly after the Interior Ministry put her on its wanted list as part of investigations into the attack, Russian news agency Interfax reported.
Hours earlier there had been reports of the suspect’s arrest, although authorities said Trepova’s mother and sister had been taken to a police station to testify, but there was no confirmation of the arrest. Likewise, Interior Ministry sources stressed that Trepova’s relatives »are not in custody». They are being interviewed. Based on the results of the interviews, we will make a decision on their position in the case,» they said.
For its part, the Russian Ministry of Health has raised the total number of people injured in the explosion to 32 and has indicated that ten of the victims are in serious condition. Another 16 people, including a 14-year-old girl, are in moderate condition.
The blogger, whose real name is Maxim Fomin, born in the Ukrainian region of Donbas (east), was participating in a »creative event» in the cafeteria when he was handed a figure concealing the explosive, according to sources quoted by the Russian news agency TASS.
Tatarski was among the bloggers with contacts in the Russian forces who routinely criticize military commanders, although rarely the target is Russian President Vladimir Putin. Putin himself has recognized the importance of these propagandists to the point that the Kremlin has created a body to coordinate the government with these content creators.
Likewise, he regularly traveled embedded with Russian forces in Ukraine and was one of the protagonists of the official ceremony in which in September the annexation of the Russian-controlled regions of eastern Ukraine was made official. »We will conquer them all. We will kill them all. We will plunder what we need and everything will be as we want it,» he said.
Tatarski would also be the second pro-war personality killed on Russian territory after the daughter of ultranationalist ideologue Alexander Duguin, Daria Dugina, was killed in a bomb attack in August.
