By order of the Court of Auditors of the Union (TCU), and within the deadline, the legal team of the former president of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro has delivered this Tuesday the third set of jewelry he received in 2019 from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, valued at 89,000 euros and in which was included a white gold Rolex with inlays.
The former secretary of Communication of the previous government, Fabio Wajngarten, has reported the delivery through his Twitter profile and stressed that Bolsonaro thus reiterates his »commitment» to return all gifts, as requested by the TCU and defends that »he always respected the law in force».
So far it has been made public that Bolsonaro received at least three sets of jewelry from Saudi Arabia. The first included a necklace that together with other jewelry was worth close to three million euros, while the second, which was already delivered to the TCU, was valued at 177,000 euros.
Both were brought in 2021 by a delegation led by the then Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque, but only the first was intercepted at customs at Guarulhos International Airport, in Sao Paulo.
Bolsonaro has acknowledged that the most expensive jewelry box, the one of almost three million euros was for his wife, Michelle, and that they tried several times to recover it through the Receita Federal, a secretariat of Economy, where it continues to wait to be delivered to the Police, as set by the TCU.
The Federal Police is already investigating this matter, for which the former minister Albuquerque has already testified. Pending his appearance, Bolsonaro could be charged with embezzlement, as well as favoritism, if there are suspicions that the entertainment was some kind of consideration.
