The Security Minister of the Argentine province of Buenos Aires, Sergio Berni, has denounced having suffered an »ambush» and has called on the Prosecutor’s Office to investigate the beating he received on Monday, when a group of hotheads assaulted him upon his arrival at a protest over the death of a bus driver.
Berni has assured that his advisors had already warned him that he could be the victim of an ambush if he attended the demonstration and has regretted that he was indeed assaulted by a group of people who came to »provoke», according to the Argentine news agency Télam.
They told me: this is an ambush, go away. And when I saw the faces I realized that there were people who came to provoke; when I made a hundred meters, I knew that this was going to end like this», said Berni, who stressed that »there must be prosecutors who have what they have to have and must be investigating».
The Buenos Aires Security Minister was assaulted on Monday when he approached a rally of bus drivers who were protesting the recent murder of one of their colleagues in the municipality of La Matanza.
Upon his arrival at the protest site, Berni was greeted with insults, sticks, stones and punches by the demonstrators, who blocked traffic in protest for the violent death of a colleague in the early hours of last night.
Due to the violence of the blows, Berni even fell to the ground, at which point some of the aggressors took the opportunity to kick him. With a bloodied cheek, the Security Minister addressed the demonstrators, assuring them that the authorities had managed to arrest the alleged perpetrator of the bus driver’s murder.
