The United States on Tuesday announced a new military aid package to Ukraine valued at $2.6 billion, already the thirty-fifth withdrawal of Defense Department funds by the Biden Administration for this country since August 2021 Included in this latest fund is a presidential appropriation to the Pentagon of $500 million and another $2.1 billion from the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), under which the United States delivers military equipment directly from its industry in lieu of materiel being withdrawn from the Pentagon.
Ukraine will receive, for example, ammunition for the Patriot air defense systems and for the missile launcher systems known as HIMARS, as well as different calibers for all types of weapons, grenade launchers, or military vehicles, such as trailers, tanker trucks, details the Pentagon.
»The United States will continue to work with its allies and partners to provide Ukraine with the capability to meet its immediate battlefield needs and longer-term security assistance requirements,» Washington concluded in a statement.
