Bulgarian authorities have decided to close its ports to all vessels registered in the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping as of April 8, 2023, Ports Europe has reported.
Thus, all vessels registered in Russia will be banned from docking in all Bulgarian sea and river ports, regardless of the flag they fly, thus following the sanctions imposed by the European Union in retaliation to the invasion of Ukraine ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Bulgarian government has been banning Russian-flagged ships from its ports since April 17 last year, a restriction included in the fifth package of sanctions imposed by the European Union. However, it is now being extended to Russian vessels sailing under the flags of other countries.
