Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko on Thursday discussed the development of a «security concept» for the Union State, the supranational entity that unites the two countries.
This document is intended to formulate the fundamental tasks of our interaction in the light of the growing tension on the external borders of our states and the sanctions and information war unleashed against us,» Putin said.
According to the Russian president, it is necessary to deepen »strategic planning» and strengthen »the Union’s state security systems, thus ensuring conditions for its progressive and sustainable socio-economic development».
Putin’s remarks were made during a meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State, which was also attended by President Lukashenko, who has been visiting Moscow since the day before.
Already on Tuesday, the two leaders, main allies in Eastern Europe, held a meeting in which they discussed the security situation in both countries in a context evidently marked by the war in Ukraine.
At that meeting, the Russian president thanked his Belarusian counterpart for the »joint work in all areas», but especially in everything that has to do with »a joint solution to ensure security» in both countries.
