A military court in the city of Yekaterinburg on Monday sentenced a former member of the National Guard and a former head of security of the Russian Emergencies Ministry to 19 years in prison for throwing Molotov cocktails at the headquarters of the Bakal Mayor’s Office in Chelyabinsk province.
»Both have been convicted and sentenced to 19 years in prison each. The first four years of the sentence will be spent in prison and the rest in a penitentiary colony under strict correctional regime,» state court documents consulted by the TASS news agency.
The Russian judiciary has pointed out that both have been sentenced according to the provisions of Article 205 of the Criminal Code for committing a »terrorist act in the form of arson attack».
The perpetrators had previously studied the possibility of making homemade incendiary devices themselves,» said the Russian intelligence service, which pointed out that the attack dates back to the end of 2022, when they broke a window of the mayor’s office and threw a Molotov cocktail inside, causing a fire that had to be extinguished by firefighters.
Following an investigation, authorities concluded that both were members of dozens of »radical ideology» groups created over the Internet, including one formed by pro-Ukrainian nationalists.
