Ukrainian authorities on Monday accused Russia of illegally holding 4,396 orphaned children in the »temporarily occupied territories» in the east of the country by troops in the framework of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian deputy prime minister, Irina Vereshchuk, has indicated that the government has thus decided to create an international coalition to achieve »their return» after Russian forces moved them to areas under their control as a result of the conflict.
In this sense, she explained that the Coordination Council for the Protection and Security of Children is working to achieve this goal and to «punish those guilty of committing crimes against Ukrainian children».
»In this case, the help of the international community is very important for us. Currently, several international leaders have publicly expressed their support for the formation of a coalition (…) There must also be an intermediary,» she pointed out.
