The Pentagon documents allegedly leaked recently would have come to light for the first time in January after they were disseminated through several groups on the messaging application Discord, as reported Monday by the U.S. newspaper ‘The Wall Street Journal’.
Thus, sources close to the matter have explained to the newspaper that these documents, some of them qualified as »confidential», circulated through this application, where they provoked »jokes, racist comments and even memes» without attracting significant attention.
It was precisely a member of this group who, anonymously, began to leak the documents beyond the application. In them there is information about the war in Ukraine, intercepted communications from U.S. allies, such as Israel and South Korea, and details about Russian military plans, among other matters.
The documents, which according to the newspaper total more than a hundred, remained on Discord until early March, when a user posted dozens of them in a group with a larger number of members.
Since then, at least a dozen files have been released. Last week, an edited version of one of these documents came to light via the Russian messaging application Telegram.
Subsequently, members of the Discord group proceeded to delete the shared information and their own accounts in fear of retaliation from the US government.
