Mexican authorities reported Thursday that they have found more than 200 migrants who were inside an abandoned trailer in Veracruz, Mexico.
Mexico’s National Migration Institute (INM) has rescued a total of 209 people, including 25 unaccompanied minors, who will be placed under the guardianship of the System for Integral Family Development, according to a statement.
The INM, with the support of the National Guard, managed to locate on Wednesday night an abandoned truck box on a highway, from where »cries for help were heard from those traveling in overcrowded conditions».
The agency has identified 144 adults from Guatemala, six from Honduras, six from El Salvador and five from Ecuador.
This rescue highlights once again the migratory crisis in the continent, as hundreds of thousands of people try to cross Central America in order to reach the Mexican border with the United States, exposing themselves to terrible conditions.
