Former President Donald Trump has assured that he will be the »loyal and fearless champion» who will defend the Second Amendment to the Constitution, the one that enshrines gun ownership, if he wins the 2024 presidential election.

»I am proud to have been the most pro-gun and most pro-Second Amendment president you have ever had in the White House and if you support me in 2024 I will be your loyal friend and fearless champion again as the 47th president of the United States,» Trump posted on his social network, Truth Social.

Trump is in Indianapolis to participate in the Annual Convention of the National Rifle Association (NRA), where his former vice president, Mike Pence, who is considering running for the Republican Party primary and contesting the nomination to the New York millionaire, with whom he is now openly at odds, is also present.

For the moment in the race for the Democratic nomination the only one who could overshadow Trump in the polls is the governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis. In the last hours one of the possible contenders, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, has officially confirmed that he will not run.

»We are not joining the race for 2024,» Pompeo explained in statements to Fox News. »We’ve come to the conclusion that it wasn’t the time for us,» referring to himself and his wife, Susan, the television highlights.

Pompeo has published a message on Twitter shortly after confirming it on Fox News in which he indicates that his decision is »personal» and that now is not the »right time» for both him and his family. However, he stressed that »there is still plenty of opportunity for a more appropriate time to come».
