The family of a young man who was shot by an 85-year-old white man last Thursday has called for »justice» after the Clay County, Florida State Attorney’s Office charged the shooter with one count of first-degree assault and one count of armed action.
The man, identified as Andrew Lester, shot Ralph Yarl, a 16-year-old black male, last Thursday night after mistakenly ringing the doorbell of his home after getting confused on his way while trying to pick up his twin brothers, who had spent the afternoon at a friend’s house.
I want justice to be equal for all,» his aunt Faith Spoonmore told CNN, adding that she hopes the shooter »gets what he deserves» in a case that could be racially motivated.
According to police inquiries, Lester did not speak to Yarl on the landing before shooting him with a revolver in the head and arm when he thought he was trying to force the door of his home. The prosecution believes there is a »racial component» to the case, although it has not provided further details.
The young man, who after the shooting asked neighbors in nearby homes for help, was released from the hospital on Sunday, family members said, amid protests that have erupted in the wake of the case in recent days in Kansas City.
