British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Wednesday gave notice of his wife’s shareholding in a childcare company after a Parliamentary body launched an investigation into whether possible government pilot grants to his company represent a conflict of interest.
The inquiry opened against Sunak was aimed at determining whether the prime minister had breached the code of conduct in the face of a new program introduced by Finance Minister Jeremy Hunt, which provides for payments for new ‘babysitters’ with more money for those who sign up through an agency.
In one of these six companies, Koru Kids, Sunak’s wife, Akshata Murty, is listed as a shareholder. Thus, in a footnote in the register, Sunak has stated that there is a »minority shareholding» in Koru Kids, according to the Guardian.
Sunak had already claimed last month that he declared »in a normal way» all his potential interests, after there was evidence in early March of his wife’s stake in Koru Kids. The couple’s assets are estimated to total around 850 million euros.
