U.S. President Joe Biden and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron held a telephone conversation on Thursday in which both agreed on the importance of »maintaining peace and stability» in the Taiwan Strait.
According to a White House statement, Macron has briefed his American counterpart on the details of his recent trip to Beijing, where he coincided with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and met with the Chinese head of state, Xi Jinping.
»The two leaders discussed President Macron’s recent trip to China and their joint efforts to promote prosperity, security, shared values and rules-based international order in the Indo-Pacific region,» the Washington statement reads.
Beyond the situation in China and the Indo-Pacific, Biden and Macron discussed a variety of other issues, including the situation in Eastern Europe, at which time both reiterated »their strong support for Ukraine in the face of Russia’s brutal aggression.»
