The platform that brings together the main opposition parties in Venezuela has called on the international community not to fall for the calls of President Nicolas Maduro in favor of »impunity» in exchange for organizing »free elections», just a few hours before the start of the summit convened in Bogota by the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro.
Maduro has demanded the lifting of sanctions as a condition for resuming the dialogue with the United Democratic Platform of Venezuela. This group, on the other hand, has urged him to »comply with what has been signed», which would mean continuing with the negotiations »without any excuse».
»We must reiterate to the international community and to the Venezuelan people that, only through free elections and under a regime of freedoms, our people will be able to begin to get out of the immense crisis that affects them», the platform has proclaimed, which trusts that the country will be able to end up expressing itself »freely». This is our commitment and the greatest desire of the Venezuelan people», it added.
Petro received last week representatives of the Unitary Platform to know their proposals before the forum on Tuesday, but the hours prior to the summit have been marked by the unexpected arrival in Colombia of opposition leader Juan Guaidó, who was expelled from the country in a matter of hours and is already in the United States.
