Denmark’s Defense Command reported Friday that it detected a Russian vessel in Baltic Sea waters four days before the September 2022 explosions that caused leaks on Nord Stream pipelines 1 and 2.
Specifically, a Danish patrol vessel sailing east of Bornholm last September 22 took as many as 26 photographs of the Russian vessel SS-750, which was in the area just four days before the sabotage took place.
The images are classified, but several media have highlighted that the vessel would be specialized in carrying out missions on the seabed, even carrying on board an AS-26 Priz submarine, the newspaper ‘Aftenposten’ has reported.
In total, the Danish Defense Command has taken 112 photographs of Russian vessels, all of them classified, as part of the investigation into the pipeline explosions, which have sparked numerous theories about the suspects.
Denmark reported in late March that the object found by the Russian gas company Gazprom, which is involved in the investigations, did not pose a threat. Danish authorities monitored the area and said there was no imminent security risk.
Russian President Vladimir Putin reported earlier that a Gazprom vessel found an antenna 30 kilometers from the site of the first explosions in Nord Stream to detonate another possible explosive device.
Both the Ukrainian government and the Ukrainian intelligence services have publicly denied any responsibility for the incident. For their part, Russian authorities have also disassociated themselves, pointing instead to the possible political and economic benefits to be gained by the United States from the sabotage.
In fact, Moscow alluded that the West is blatantly trying to silence material from Pulitzer Prize winner Seymour Hersh, who accused the U.S. Navy of being behind the explosions. Germany, Sweden and Denmark are all conducting their own investigations into what happened.
A joint investigation by the German public broadcasters ARD, SWR, the newspaper ‘Die Zeit’ and the magazine ‘Kontraste’, claims that the attack was launched from a yacht rented from a company based in Poland and owned by two Ukrainian nationals.
