Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a telephone conversation with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on Friday, in which he offered to host, together with the UN, a process of dialogue between the parties to the conflict in Sudan.
Thus, Erdogan has assured that Ankara can facilitate that the Sudanese Army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) sit down to negotiate to put an end to hostilities that began in mid-April and have already left a toll of at least 400 dead and 3,500 wounded.
On the other hand, the Turkish leader and the top leader of the United Nations have discussed the situation in Ukraine and have agreed on the importance of extending once again the agreement for the export of cereals from Ukrainian ports, according to the Turkish news agency Anatolia.
Russia and Ukraine reached in July last year a pact to facilitate the export of Ukrainian grain and Russian fertilizers through Black Sea waters, which now, however, is approaching its expiration date and Russia does not seem to be in favor of a new extension as it says it feels harmed.
Along with this range of issues, the two leaders discussed developments in Syria, with Erdogan stressing the importance of extending the UN cross-border aid mechanism to Syria.
