The Russian Foreign Ministry has denounced Wednesday that a group of »intruders» has attacked its consulate in the Finnish city of Mariehamn, located in the Aland Islands, causing material damage.
As explained by Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, the »act of vandalism» took place during the night of April 30-May 1, when a group of people threw an »explosive noise device, as well as other items» against the consulate grounds.
»The actions of the intruders posed a direct threat to the life and health of the Russian mission staff,» said Zakharova, who reported that the Russian Embassy in Helsinki has already asked the Finnish government to take action.
The Foreign Ministry spokeswoman stressed that it is necessary for Finland »to take the necessary measures to bring the perpetrators to justice and to ensure the appropriate level of security for the consulate staff and property».
