The U.S. Embassy in Ukraine on Wednesday issued a warning about the »growing and continuing threat of missile attacks» in Kiev following »inflammatory rhetoric from Moscow» in the wake of the alleged drone strike on the presidential headquarters, the Kremlin.
»In light of the recent spike in attacks in Ukraine and inflammatory rhetoric from Moscow, the State Department warns U.S. citizens of a growing threat of missile attacks, including in the capital, Kiev, and the Kiev region,» it has sentenced in a warning.
In this regard, the U.S. Embassy has issued a series of recommendations and urged citizens to »follow the instructions of local authorities» as well as »consult additional security information».
This comes after Russia’s Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case to investigate the alleged drone attack on the presidential headquarters, the Kremlin, as a possible »terrorist act» with the aim of ending the life of the president, Vladimir Putin.
The Russian Presidency reported Wednesday that it has shot down two Ukrainian drones in the vicinity of the Kremlin. From the first moment, Moscow has pointed to Kiev as the main responsible for the alleged attack.
In fact, former President Dmitry Medvedev has advocated »physically eliminating» the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, while the Speaker of the Russian Lower House, Vyacheslav Volodin, has even compared him to the Islamic State.
For his part, former Russian opposition deputy Ilya Ponomarev, who is in exile, has affirmed in an interview with CNN that the »attack» would have been carried out by »Russian partisans». »I cannot say more, since they have not yet publicly claimed responsibility,» he stressed.
The alleged attack denounced by Moscow coincides with the latest shelling by Russian forces on the Kherson region, which has left at least 18 dead in the region, according to Ukrainian authorities.
