The U.S. Attorney’s Office has launched an investigation into the Trump Organization’s handling of videotapes from former President Donald Trump’s Florida residence, the Mar-a-Lago mansion.
The handling of these recordings by the organization’s workers after Trump himself was subpoenaed to testify have prompted new subpoenas by a grand jury investigating the discovery of classified White House documents at the property.
Thus, executives Matthew Calamari and his son, Matthew Calamari Jr., will have to appear Thursday before the grand jury for possible negligence in handling classified documents found at Mar-a-Lago, as reported by CNN television network.
Calamari is in charge of overseeing Trump’s security operations and properties, while his son is the Trump Organization’s director of security. These subpoenas mark a step forward in special prosecutor Jack Smith’s investigation and place some of Trump’s closest allies as potential witnesses against him.
