U.S. President Joe Biden reacted early Wednesday to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement that he has officially launched his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election, accusing the former president of failing the country.

«Donald Trump failed the United States,» Biden wrote in a message posted on his Twitter profile, accompanied by a video in which he mainly criticizes that Trump has «attacked the health system» and «pampered extremists».

In the audiovisual document, Biden has listed a series of characteristics of Trump’s mandate: «rigging» the economy for the benefit of the rich, through lower taxes; attacking women’s rights, by calling for sanctions for those who have abortions; inciting violent crowds, by proposing to lift the convictions of the participants of the assault on the Capitol; or presenting the worst employment data in the country.

«Trump is the only modern president who leaves the presidential office with fewer jobs than when he arrived,» criticizes a ‘voiceover’ in the video shared by the leader of the Democratic Party.

For its part, the White House has published a compilation of the successes of the Biden Administration, highlighting job creation, climate measures or the post-pandemic rescue plan.

Trump has officially presented this Tuesday his candidacy for the 2024 presidential elections, affirming his intentions to «make America great and glorious again».

«In order to make America great and glorious again, tonight I announce my candidacy for president of the United States,» Trump said to applause from his Florida residence of Mar-a-Lago, according to statements reported by the media.

Alluding to his defeat – which he has not yet acknowledged – in the last presidential election of 2020, the former US president has detailed that this milestone «was not the end», but «only the beginning» of his struggle to «rescue the American dream».

Trump had been hinting for weeks about his plans to run in the Republican primaries and had confirmed his plans to make «a big announcement» this Tuesday.

The tycoon will almost certainly have to face Florida’s current governor, Ron DeSantis, who has garnered the support of part of the Republican Party following his strong showing in last week’s midterm elections.
