Polish President Andrzej Duda said Tuesday night that Polish authorities have no conclusive evidence about who is behind the missile launch that killed two people near the Ukrainian border.

«We have no conclusive evidence at the moment about who launched this rocket. Investigations are ongoing. Most likely it was a Russian-made rocket,» the president told the media.

Duda assured that the country has reinforced protection, but denied the existence of indications that «more events of this type» could occur. «What happened in Przewodow was a single incident,» he said.

He also called for calm and informed that the Polish authorities are working together with their allies: «Polish soldiers are on the spot. The support of the allies is there and the commitments are being fulfilled,» said the country’s leader.

«NATO is on alert. We have strengthened the readiness of the Polish armed forces, including air defense. Our planes will be supported by allied aircraft,» he explained.

The Polish president also announced that «it is very likely» that this Wednesday Poland’s ambassador to NATO, Tomasz Szatkowski, will request the activation of Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty.

«It is very likely that the ambassador will request the initiation of Article 4, i.e. allied consultations,» Duda informed.

In addition, Duda assured that his international allies, with whom he has been in contact tonight, have made clear their support and that allied commitments are in place to protect Polish security.
