At least 368 undocumented migrants were rescued Friday near the capital of the southern Mexican state of Chiapas after being abandoned at dawn by the person who had driven them there, authorities said.
According to ‘El Milenio’, citizens of the region alerted the authorities after observing the group of migrants walking along the road, where the person who guided them had left them with the promise to return later, something that did not happen.
The group of people from Honduras, Guatemala and Cuba have been attended by the State Preventive Police, members of the National Guard and the National Migration Institute and have been transferred to the state capital to regulate their situation in the country.
It is common for caravans of migrants to cross this state with the purpose of reaching those regions that border the United States. In the last year there have been several caravans of thousands of migrants.
