Two men were arrested Saturday at New York’s Pennsylvania Station for threats to the Jewish community, carrying a large hunting knife and an illegal firearm with a 30-round magazine.
An FBI and NYPD task force was on their tail after identifying threats to Jewish people on Friday night, so they «moved quickly» to gather information, identify them and «neutralize their ability to do harm,» the police commissioner said in a statement.
The action was carried out in conjunction with Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) officers whom the NYPD thanked for their «keen eyes» in identifying them.
The New York Times reported that authorities in the U.S. city had issued an alert on Friday because a man had threatened and intimidated people in synagogues in the New York area. No further details about the detainees have been released.
At the moment a joint investigation is being carried out between the different bodies and the police have been deployed in «strategic locations» in the city, according to a statement.
