Germany’s Chancellor Olaf Scholz has backed the national soccer team’s protest against FIFA’s rule preventing the wearing of LGTBI bracelets during the World Cup in Qatar.
The players covered their mouths before their first match. «I’m glad they wanted to make a statement in favor of an open society. The German team has found a way to send a clear signal,» Scholz said in an interview with ‘Focus’ magazine.
Germany’s Interior Minister Nancy Faeser, who did display the ‘One Love’ armband in the box, said Thursday that in a brief conversation with FIFA president Gianni Infantino she had reproached him for the body’s «big mistake» in banning the symbol.
