Ukraine’s ambassador to Germany, Oleksi Makeev, has insisted, as Kiev has habitually done since the beginning of the war with Russia, on arms demands to Germany, which was initially reproached for not doing enough to support the Ukrainian cause.
«We really need Germany’s support,» Makeev has emphasized in an interview for the ZDF channel. «Now we need generators and transformers, as they suffer especially in Russian attacks,» the ambassador has explained.
«We need weapons because German weapons save lives,» said the Ukrainian ambassador, who in turn demanded the delivery of air defense systems, such as the German IRIS-T, with which it has been possible to shoot down several missiles.
On the other hand, Makeev has also made reference to what Ukraine would consider an eventual triumph. To the departure of the Russians from Ukraine should be added the surrender of the territories now occupied, about 15 percent, including Crimea to consider the victory as full.
In that vein, the diplomat has also rejected voices claiming that Kiev would be refusing to negotiate with Moscow. «It is Russia that does not want to sit at the negotiating table,» he has said.
