Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock and Republican challenger Herschel Walker are vying Tuesday for a U.S. Senate seat representing Georgia that will be key to control of the House should Donald Trump achieve victory in the November 2024 presidential election.

Right now the Democratic Party controls 50 of the 100 Senate seats and can win votes thanks to the casting vote of Kamala Harris who serves as Senate President in her capacity as Vice President of the country. However, this casting vote would fall on the Republican side in the event of winning the White House in the elections.

Everything points to a close result between Warnock and Walker in the second round of the elections after the first one won by only 9 tenths of a point over his rival in the mid-term elections on November 8.

However, the media highlight that Warnock could enjoy a slight advantage heading into Tuesday’s vote, although the Republicans are not giving the battle for lost. «We have great hope and faith in things unseen. It is Christmas time at the end of the day,» said a Republican official, Jason Shepherd, according to Politico.

Warnock has had a busy end-of-campaign weekend with six events in different cities, including Mass at the parish where he is pastor, Ebenezer Baptist Church where he said that «voting is a form of prayer.»

Walker, meanwhile, was at two events, one in Atlanta before a soccer game where he did not speak and another in Loganville with intense campaign content. «It’s time for our voices to be heard and our votes to be counted. Stop complaining. What we need to do is go vote. If you don’t have friends, make a friend and get out and vote,» he said.

There have not been many polls. The latest released Friday by CNN puts Warnock with a slight lead (52-48 percent) thanks to support from independent voters, according to the poll conducted by SSRS.

Warnock was one of the most vulnerable Democratic senators in the election, but Walker has turned out to be a weak candidate, with gaffes and contradictions such as rejecting abortion despite being found to have paid for an abortion for an ex-girlfriend or staunchly supporting Donald Trump.

Moreover, according to studies, 96 percent of blacks will vote for Warnock despite Walker’s boast of being a black soccer star.
