Estonian authorities said Tuesday that the state-owned railway company will be banned from transporting goods from Russia and Belarus in the midst of the war in Ukraine.
According to an order signed by the country’s Minister of Economy and Infrastructure, Riina Sikkut, Operail will stop transporting these goods from the aforementioned territories as of January 1, 2023.
She said that the company will have to assess «the ethics of trade relations with Russia and Belarus and, if necessary, abandon these relations, replacing them with new lines of business», as reported by ERR.
A report by Operail shows that the volume of cargo transportation has halved over the course of this year due to sanctions imposed following the invasion of Ukrainian territory.
