The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, thanked the EU for «unblocking» the 18 billion euros in macro-financial assistance for 2023, in a conversation with the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, in which he advocated accelerating the implementation of the new package of sanctions against Russia.
Zelenski, who will speak again on Thursday during the meeting of heads of state and government, also applauded the agreement between the EU-27 to increase with 2 billion euros the European Peace Facility, a key instrument for supplying arms to Ukraine.
The Ukrainian leader and the President of the Council also discussed the implementation of the Commission’s «recommendations» for Ukraine to continue on its European path and, according to Zelenski, they «coordinated more steps» to move towards full integration. Ukraine has had candidate country status since June.
