An earthquake measuring 6.2 magnitude on the Richter scale, with epicenter offshore, has shaken eastern Taiwan and awakened citizens after several aftershocks were felt, the island’s Central Weather Bureau (CWB) has reported.
The epicenter of the tremor, which occurred at 3.17 a.m. (local time), was located 29.1 kilometers southeast of the city of Hualien, with a shallow focal depth of 5.7 kilometers.
So far, the Taiwanese authorities have not reported any injuries or material damage, and have also ruled out the risk of tsunami, as reported by ‘Taiwan News’.
