The United States announced Thursday that it will expand the training program for the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Europe, whereby groups of 500 Ukrainian military personnel will travel to Germany every month to train with the U.S. Army.
«The combined training and maneuvers are a logical next step in our ongoing efforts that began in 2014 to build the capacity of the Ukrainian Armed Forces,» Pentagon spokesman Gen. Patrick Ryder has told a press conference, as reported by CNN.
In this regard, Ryder explained that the training, led by the Army’s 7th Training Command, will include firearms exercises, as well as squad, platoon and company-level activities that will eventually culminate in battalion-level maneuver training.
«When Russia invaded the country, we withdrew our trainers from Ukraine, so this is a continuation now of the training we had previously provided,» he has noted, adding that from Washington they are «flexible» and continue to monitor the situation on the ground.
