The French government will deploy 14,000 National Police and Gendarmerie troops for the World Cup final in Qatar, which will pit France and Argentina against each other on Sunday.
The French Interior Minister, Gérald Darmanin, has confirmed in statements to the media this deployment, which increases by 4,000 troops the contingent already mobilized on Wednesday throughout the country on the occasion of the semi-final between France and Morocco.
Then, the authorities kept open areas usually frequented during the celebrations, such as the Champs Elysees. For Sunday, however, this emblematic avenue of Paris will be completely pedestrianized, said Darmanin.
The minister recalled that after France’s victory in the 2018 World Cup in Russia, some 600,000 people gathered on the Champs-Elysees to celebrate the victory.
