Billionaire Elon Musk on Tuesday announced his decision to step down as CEO of Twitter after he lost a poll on the platform on Monday asking users whether he should resign from the position.
«I will resign as CEO (chief executive officer) as soon as I find someone dumb enough to accept the position,» Musk has asserted in response to the poll conducted on the social network that resulted in 57.5 percent of votes in favor of him stepping down.
In this sense, he said that once he finds a person to succeed him, he will only manage the software teams as well as the servers.
The poll published by the tycoon on Monday had only two options, so apart from the 57.5 percent who voted in favor of him stepping down, another 42.5 percent were against his departure as CEO of the company. In the consultation tweet, Musk stressed that he would abide by the results that came out of it.
Musk’s resignation as CEO of Twitter comes almost two months after the deal to buy the company for $44 billion (41 billion euros) was made official.
During this time, the billionaire has been caught up in several policies as a result of his decisions at the helm of the social network, including the recent decision to ban the promotion of other social networks on its platform, which clashes with his promise to defend freedom of expression.
Likewise, during Musk’s time as Twitter’s top executive, former U.S. President Donald Trump has regained access to his account – suspended since the beginning of 2021 for promoting the assault on the U.S. Capitol -. In addition, the profiles of several journalists were suspended for allegedly giving personal information about the tycoon.
