At least 15 people were killed in attacks late Monday by unidentified gunmen on several towns in the northern Nigerian states of Zamfara and Sokoto, amid deteriorating security in this part of the African country.
According to the information gathered by the Nigerian newspaper ‘The Premium Times’, the assailants broke into several communities in Ruwan Bore, in Zamfara, and in Gatawa, Dangari and Kurawa, in Sokoto, without the central government having pronounced itself for now on the events.
Basharu Guyawa, president of the non-governmental organization Rundunar Adalci, has lamented that the attacks in Sokoto have become «normal». «Bandits have been attacking at will for more than a year now. They don’t wait for the night or engage in a cat-and-mouse game with security forces,» he lamented.
The insecurity in Nigeria, centered precisely in this area, where Boko Haram and Islamic State in West Africa (ISWA) operate, has been spreading to other areas in the north and northwest, raising alarms about the possible expansion of terrorist and criminal networks.
