German footballer Ilkay Gündogan has praised his Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola as the «best coach in modern football» for having «changed soccer» over the past decade.
«He is the best coach in modern soccer,» the 32-year-old midfielder told the Arab News. The two have worked together at City since 2016, with Gündogan’s contract expiring next summer.
The midfielder, a Germany international who was eliminated in the group stage of the World Cup in Qatar, was quick to admit that Pep Guardiola «is probably the most innovative coach in modern football.» «I have the feeling that he is the one who has changed football in the last ten years,» said the player about the Catalan coach.
