A doctor in the German town of Weinheim has been sentenced to two years and nine months in prison for issuing reports exempting 4,374 people from the use of masks, most of them without any examination.
The sentence also includes three years’ disqualification and a fine of 2,700 euros for the doctor’s assistant, according to German public television ARD.
On Monday, the scheduled sentencing date, some 150 people gathered outside the Weinheim district court hearing the case in an authorized denial rally, according to the police. The demonstrators carried banners with slogans such as «Human dignity is inviolable» or «Coronavirus measures harm the weakest and serve no one».
The defense lawyer criticized the «terror process» and compared the «totalitarian regime of the coronavirus» with the Nazi-era regime.
The prosecution had asked for three and a half years of imprisonment for the crime of «issuing incorrect health certificates» without any examination.
The defendant has publicly declared herself to be against the use of masks because of their negative effects on health and because they cause re-infections and breathing difficulties.
