The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, has expressed this Sunday his «absolute condemnation» for the «assault on democratic institutions» in Brazil, with a message in which he also wanted to give on behalf of the bloc the «full support» to the current president of the South American giant, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
Michel recalled that Lula was elected «democratically», in elections that were «fair and free», contrary to what has been defended during these months by former president Jair Bolsonaro.
For his part, the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell has expressed «dismay» at «the actions of violence and illegal occupation» of institutions at the hands of thousands of «extremists». «Brazilian democracy will prevail over violence and extremism,» he said.
