The president of Peru, Dina Boluarte, met this Wednesday with a delegation of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), led by the first vice-president of the organization, Stuardo Ralón, to learn about the current human rights situation in the context of the protests.
«In the meeting, the President ratified the Government’s support to the IACHR for the fulfillment of its work, referred to the clarification of the facts of violence occurred in the country, and reaffirmed its commitment to continue promoting dialogue and social peace», highlighted the Peruvian Presidency in its official Twitter profile.
The meeting, held at the Government Palace, was also attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ana Cecilia Gervasi, and the Minister of Justice and Human Rights, José Tello, as reported by the Andina news agency.
Later, the IACHR reported that, following its meeting with Boluarte, the delegation met with victims, family members and social organizations in Ica. The IACHR members will also visit Lima and Ayacucho until January 13.
This meeting comes after Amnesty International urged the Peruvian authorities to «immediately» cease the «excessive use of force» against civilians who continue to demonstrate against the government after more than 40 people have already lost their lives during the protests.
