UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak received his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida in London on Wednesday to discuss how the two countries will tighten their joint defense and security operation.
Sunak and Kishida described the Reciprocal Access Agreement, announced hours earlier, as «an important step» in joint cooperation. They also agreed that the defense and security collaboration will not only benefit the Kingdom and Japan, but also «global stability in general».
In this regard, the British premier welcomed Kishida’s plans to focus on the impact of the invasion of Ukraine on global food and economic security, according to a Downing Street statement.
He also added that the future growth and prosperity of all countries «will be driven by collaboration and innovation», and both leaders stressed that there is «enormous potential» for growth in the economies of the two countries with these agreements.
Meanwhile, Sunak expressed his desire to visit the Japanese city of Hiroshima on the occasion of the G7 meeting to be held in Japan in May, all within the framework of the Japanese presidency of the organization.
