The National Weather Service in Birmingham declared an emergency tornado watch for Tallapoosa County in the U.S. state of Alabama on Thursday, with speeds that could reach more than 60 miles per hour.
At the moment, more than 100,000 people are without power in the states of Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee, and some minor injuries have been reported, as explained by the director of external affairs of the Alabama Emergency Management Agency, Greg Robinson, as reported by CNN.
The mayor of the Alabama city of Selma has asked residents to refrain from traveling on roads and to stay away from power poles because of possible landslides, NBC reported.
The National Weather Service has also spotted another storm in the form of an apparent tornado moving eastward near Hartsfield Jackson International Airport in the city of East Point, located southwest of Atlanta in Fulton County, Georgia.
