British police confirmed Sunday that six people have been shot and wounded after gunshots were fired outside a church where a funeral was taking place on Phoenix Road in central London.
Among the victims is a seven-year-old girl who has been taken to a central London hospital and remains in serious condition. A second girl, aged 12, was also injured but her injuries are minor.
The incident has also left four other victims, three women – aged 48, 54 and 41 – who have been taken to a central London hospital, whose injuries were assessed as non-life-threatening.
Also, another 21-year-old woman has been taken to another health center where her condition has been assessed as not life-threatening, according to the police statement.
British police received a call about the attack at 13.29 (local time) on Saturday reporting a shooting in Phoenix Road, in the London Borough of Camden.
Officers attended with medics from the London Ambulance Service and London Air Ambulance.
The incident took place in the vicinity of a church where a funeral was being held. According to initial investigations, the shots were fired from a moving vehicle which drove away from the scene.
According to the police, no arrests have been made so far and an appeal for possible witnesses to the attack is underway.
«An investigation into this horrific attack is already underway involving local officers and specialist detectives. I can assure the communities of Camden and beyond that we will do all we can to identify and bring to justice those responsible,» said Camden District Police Commissioner Ed Wells.
