The former commander of the Brasilia Military Police, Fabio Augusto Vieira, has assured that the Army avoided making arrests on the day of the assault on a pro-Bolsonaro camp set up in front of the Armed Forces Headquarters in the Brazilian capital.

After being summoned by the Brazilian justice for his alleged negligence during the management of the anti-democratic attacks and connivance with those responsible, Vieira has detailed that the members of the Army did not carry out the arrest warrants and rejected the attempts to demobilize the camp, reported ‘O Globo’.

According to the former commander, after the control of the headquarters of the three powers was retaken, the Military Police (PM) of Brasília tried to arrest those who were in the camp in front of the Army headquarters, but the initiative was vetoed because the Army was mobilized to not allow the PM to enter.

Regarding the attempts to dismantle the camp, Vieira has maintained that it happened then because of the refusal of the Armed Forces, which said that the camp was already gradually demobilized.

The information is known more than a week after the Brazilian Supreme Court ordered the country’s Army to dismantle all «bolsonarista camps» that existed in the national territory within 24 hours after, led to the arrest of more than 1,200 people.

Meanwhile, the former commander of the PM of Brasília has confessed that he met with the director of operations of the corps, Jorge Naimen, who was on vacation the day of the assault and who affirmed that there would be no risk in the event being organized by the Bolsonaristas, according to ‘Folha de S.Paulo’.

That day, assailants invaded the Congress buildings, the Planalto Palace and the Federal Supreme Court (TSF), destroying much of the premises in their path, all this after a timid action by the PM. Vieira was dismissed and detained by decision of the TSF for alleged omission in relation to the episode.
