Police in Germany have launched an investigation after finding explosives in the hands of two minors while searching homes in the Upper Palatinate region of the southern German state of Bavaria.
In a search operation carried out in three apartments, officers seized homemade explosive devices from the hands of two 13-year-old minors. They also seized bladed weapons, cell phones and computers, the DPA agency reported.
The two teenagers have been admitted to a psychiatric clinic following the operation, the police said in a statement.
The search of the homes was initiated following reports on social networks that two minors were possibly in possession of prohibited objects and could be planning crimes.
According to initial inquiries, the explosives were in the possession of a relative. The extent to which the relative had violated explosives legislation remains to be clarified. In principle, there were no indications that the relative had been involved in the plans of the teenagers.
The explosives were detonated in a controlled manner by specialists of the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office near the place where they were found. The German police have opened an investigation to determine the details of the crimes in question.
