The former Minister of Justice during Jair Bolsonaro’s mandate, Anderson Torres, assured Monday that he «never» questioned the result of the presidential elections, in which President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won.
«I never questioned the result of the election, there is no manifestation on my part in this regard,» said the former Justice Minister, pointing out that this is an «ideological war».
Torres, who was the Secretary of Public Security of the Federal District of Brasília during the assault on the Three Powers by pro-Bolsonar supporters, has been detained since January 14, since the Brazilian Supreme Court considers that the invasion occurred by the «consent and even the effective participation of the competent authorities».
Likewise, he has asserted that «he has nothing to do with the facts», while he has labeled his arrest as a «cannon shot in the chest», since he was «on vacation», in reference to his stay in the United States. Torres was arrested upon his arrival in the Brazilian capital on a flight from Miami.
«This accusation took me very much by surprise, the custody hearing is not the place to say anything about it, but I want to say that I have nothing to do with the facts, this was a cannon shot in my chest, I was on vacation, a dream vacation for me and my family,» Torres has expressed in a custody hearing.
Torres, like Bolsonaro, was not in Brazil on the 8th, when the assault on the headquarters of Congress, the Supreme Court and the presidential palace took place. On that day, the governor of Brasilia, Ibaneis Rocha, dismissed him from his post as secretary.
Days later, the Brazilian Federal Police (PF) found during a raid on his residence a draft decree for a coup attempt. Torres maintained that this document had been discarded and its seizure had been «out of context».
