The President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has approved the creation of a transition team for the transfer of power after the presidential and legislative elections of February 25, which he will not be able to run for after having exhausted the two terms of office provided for in the Constitution.
«I have signed executive order 14 of 2023 on Facilitation and Management of Presidential Transitions,» the president said through a message on his account on the social network Twitter.
He explained that «the new executive order creates a legal framework for a seamless transition of power from one presidential administration to another», before adding that a Presidential Transition Council will also be created «to facilitate and manage the 2023 presidential transition program».
The opposition Peter Obi, candidate of the Labor Party (LP), appears as one of the main favorites for the elections together with Bola Ahmed Tinubu, of the governmental All Progressives Congress (APC), and Atiku Abubakar, of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
